The Counselling Centre of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, in collaboration with the College of Science and Science Students' Association, has organised a personal development programme for final-year students at the College dubbed "Beyond the Walls of KNUST." The event, held on Wednesday,31st May 2023, was designed to equip the students with the necessary skills and mindset to thrive in the real world beyond their academic journey.
Mrs. Bernice Serwaah Ofosuhene Peasah, the Counsellor of the College, commenced the event with an engaging presentation on "Balancing Effective Social and Academic Life for Personal Development." In her speech, she emphasised the significance of multitasking and highlighted that while there is no one-size-fits-all solution to achieving a perfect work-life balance, setting boundaries, adhering to rules and regulations, managing time efficiently, and exercising discipline are essential aspects of living a well-rounded life.
Mr. George Amponsah Orwell, the Ashanti Regional Director at the National Youth Authority (NYA), discussed with the students, the importance of enhancing social and employability skills. He commended the organisers for their exceptional efforts in organising such an impactful event. Mr. Orwell acknowledged that transitioning into post-university life can be intimidating; however, he stressed the need to choose a path that aligns with one's passion. He further encouraged the students to lead successful lives by making conscious and purposeful efforts, embracing values such as respect, integrity, humility, and being proactive.
Professor Daniel Y. A. Duah, the Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO), highlighted on the various activities and opportunities offered by his Office. He underscored the value of participating in exchange programmes and studying abroad, which allow students to broaden their horizons, gain international exposure, and develop a global mindset. He exposed the students to the various scholarship opportunities available for eligible students, encouraging them to seize the opportunity and apply to further their education.
The programme gave participants the opportunity to ask questions and gain valuable insights, expert guidance, and practical advice to empower them to navigate their personal and professional lives successfully.
